So often we fish a piece of water that is not quite as clean as we would like it. Added to this, it seems that our cameras pick up the brown in the water well beyond levels that we experience out on the stream. The result is a set of photos to which your friends may visibly recoil, even if just a little, or perhaps the pictures will draw the odd remark.
At the risk of misrepresenting the truth, here is a little tip to clean those pictures up, just a little.
Here is your original picture:
Right. In your editing program (I use “Lightroom” TM) , first bring up the blacks, very strongly, as follows:
Now, your water will have cleared up a whole lot, but your colours may be a bit too strong and unnatural.
To remedy this, I drop the colour saturation:

Good tip. My photos usually need a little touching up but when I mess with them I make them worse.
Thanks. Yes, it is easy to “overdo” the editing, and be warned that if you use some of the free software like “Picasa”, each time you alter something, your picture becomes more grainy.
